ONE, TWO, FREDDY’S COMING FOR YOU… THIS AUGUST, DON’T JUST STAY FOR ONE ELM STREET, SPEND A WHOLE HARROWING NIGHT EXPERIENCING BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK FREDDY KRUEGER DELIRIUM WITH POPCORN FRIGHTS’ “UP ALL NIGHT WITH FREDDY” MARATHON! WE GUARANTEE YOU WON’T SLEEP THROUGH ALL SEVEN FILMS… OR EVER AGAIN! AND IF YOU SURVIVE THE WHOLE MARATHON, YOU’LL GO HOME WITH A LITTLE SOMETHING TO REMEMBER THE NIGHT YOU SPENT WITH THE MAN OF YOUR DREAMS!
If David Lynch watched every Looney Tunes cartoon in one sitting, then created a Freddy Krueger ride at Universal Studios, it might feel something like FREDDY’S DEAD. The debut feature film from director Rachel Talalay – who previously produced John Waters’s HAIRSPRAY and CRY-BABY, and would later direct the cult classic TANK GIRL – is an unclassifiable mind warp that layers camp excess with a dark psychological core. One part Twin Peaks homage, one part psychedelic bloodbath, and all parts total lunacy, FREDDY’S DEAD is a fitting epitaph to 1980s excess. This includes weirdo cameos, Nintendo references, and an intensely bizarre climax in 3D. To quote Freddy himself, “Now you’re playing with power!”
