This cleverly twisted and mind-bending time loop horror may be light on DeLorean’s and lightning bolts, but it more than makes up for it with heavy fiendish cross-currents of temporal interaction as it speeds along to its chilling climax. A PRIMER-like triumph of ideas over budget, BRIGHTWOOD centers on a couple who find themselves trapped while on a run around a pond. As these inescapable woods become a solipsistic universe for them, the couple must find a way to live with each other, to become the best version of themselves, even if that means endless expressions of violent self-loathing and self-destruction as their failing, rut-stuck relationship is presented as a kind of several recurring circles of hell.
